Ellen's parents were John and Ann Perry. One is inclined to think it is going to be quite a job tracing such a common lot of names, but as the 1851 cencus shows, most of the Perry's in the Congleton area at this time are imports that have come to work with silk. Our Perry family are butchers. It is with the assistance of Craig Albiston in Houston, Texas that this family are now taking shape. He fortunately had the St. Peter's Congleton, and St Mary Astbury Bishop's transcripts on loan when I asked for assistance on the Cheshire List. Anyway, this is how the family tree goes at present.

It's always exciting to get a lead on a new branch of the family and this goes for the Perry's as well. My first known Perry ancestor was Ellen and she was the second wife of  Edward Joyce of Congleton. This was Ellen's second marriage also as she was previously married to John Wild, a draper, who died on the 15 Mar 1849 aged 34 years and is buried in Ellen's parents family plot - Gravestone # 77 St Peter's Church, Congleton. He left a will which I'm able to order on-line.

I'm not too sure how many children were born to them, but Ann Jane Wild was living with her new Joyce family in the 1861 cencus. She is absent from the 1851 cencus, however, that has Ellen a widow aged 32 living with her widowed sister, Hannah Broadhead, and her nephew, Samuel Broadhead, in Victoria Street, Congleton. She is obviously still operating as a draper at this time with the assistance of Samuel, aged 23 years. ( Hannah was the illigitimate daughter of Ann Walley, Ellen's mother, before she married John Perry. Hannah was working as a saddler at the time of the 1851 cencus ).

JOHN 1785: 1841 - 50 yrs butcher dwelling High St Astbury with wife and son James.

Wife ANN WALLEY abt 1783: 1841 - 55 yrs. 1851 - 68 yrs, retired widow dwelling with son James.

JOHN 1820: Died aged 5 mths.

JOHN 1854: 1861 - 6 yrs residing with family. 1871 - 16 yrs residing with family.

SARAH 1809: Died aged 13 yrs.

Here lies the body of John Perry who died the 3rd of March 17** aged 41 years also Pheby his wife who died Novr 1st 1793 aged 48 years also Sarah the wife of William Perry who died March 27th 1824 aged 54 years also the aforesaid William Perry who died Septr 10th 1825 aged 58 years also Hannah their daughter who died May 17th 1831 aged 33 years.

Sacred to the memory of Thomas Parry son of Thomas and Ann Parry of Macclesfield who departed this life Feby 12 1824 aged 20 years.  My plant did flourish fair, Like a rose in June, But death with its cold hand, Has cropt my tender bloom.

In memory of John son of John and Ann Perry who died Decr 22nd 1820 aged 5 months. Also Elizabeth their daughter who died March the 8th 1821 aged 4 years.  Also Sarah their daughter who died April 28th 1822 aged 13 years.  Affliction sore long time I bore.  Physicians were in vain.  Till God did please to give me ease and free me from my pain.  And of John Wild son in law to the above who departed this life March 15th 1849 aged 34 years.  Also the aforesaid John Perry who died June 7th 1850 aged 64 years.  Also Ann their daughter wife of Joseph Barnett who died Dec 27th 1860 aged 46 years.  Also Ann relict of the aforesaid John Perry who died June 26th 1871 aged 88 years.  Also Ann wife of James Perry who died October 27th 1890 aged 69 years.  A light is from our household gone, a voice we loved is stilled, a place is vacant at our hearth, which never can be filled.  Also Doris Jackson grand daughter of the above who died May 7th 1891 aged 5 months.  Also Mabel daughter of C.W. and A. Jackson who died December 27th 1894 aged 5 months. 

(You'll see a discrepancy between the burial and death dates of John Wild.  The burial register puts him in the ground on March 8th but the memorial inscription has his death date as March 15th.  If the inscription was hard to read, I wonder if he died March 5th instead of the 15th?)
